The Silver Queen

(I wrote this poem in something of an inspired state in 2012; I think it’s one of my best (which, I realise, is not saying much…).)

The Silver Queen floats by;
She is beautiful, I have heard –
But I look not upon her face.
For the light shining
From the lamp on her barge,
Is more useful than beauty,
As I pick herbs in the dark.
